WHY "BILINGUAL" IN OUR NAME
Santa Ana Broadway Church was for many years an English-only church. Located in the heart of Santa Ana, where Spanish-speaking Hispanics today reach about 95% of the population, the church fast decreasing Anglo membership invited a large group of Latino members from Santa Ana Mac Fadden SDA church, to join them. Literally overnight, the church became bilingual.
However, through the last decade, the aging Anglo membership begun to quickly fade away, to the point where in 2004 we only had one English-speaking member left from the original group. Through the last few years, the agreement was to keep the church bilingual, and so out of respect for this member, we kept the name of Santa Ana Broadway Bilingual. Although this member is no longer with us, we still keep the tradition to make sure we support the English skills of our youth, and also to have an attractive environment for visitors that may worship wit us.
Although we are a 100% Latino and Spanish-speaking congregation, the last Sabbath of every month we hold the service in English. The rest of the month, although the service is in Spanish, we have in place a very effective simultaneous translation program for our visitors, an English Sabbath School Class, and a youth English Sabbath School program. It is very rare to celebrate a Sabbath without some English-speaking visitor. And what a joy that is.
We love diversity, and although we are Latinos and we sgare the same language, our members come from many different countries with different cultural backgrounds and even different races.
It is important for us to clarify this point, to explain why our website is in Spanish, and not in both languages. The simple answer is, we are a Spanish-speaking church, with the love of all languages in Christ.
